Big Boo Boo

Uh-oh. We had a big uh-oh at our house.

After we got put to bed, Quinn and I were playing around. I was in my crib and I stuck my hand through the slats and next thing you know, my arm was hurting. Quinn got me an ice pack, but it didn't quite help. I cried a little bit, but when Mommy came to check on me, I was just whining and went right to sleep. The next day I was holding my right arm funny and not using it. I couldn't hold things with it or use it to push myself up off the floor. I never cried much about it, no screaming, just a bit of whining.

So we went to the doctor who sent us to the pediatric orthopedist. The doctor noticed I winced when he bent my arm certain ways so he took some pictures of the bones. Here I am at the doctor waiting for the x-rays.You can kind of see how I'm holding my right arm out a little. And I'm using my left hand to play, not my usual right.

Turns out I broke the radial head, which is right at the end where it bends at the elbow. Mommy said I was a trooper, whatever that is.

I sat really still to get my cast on and was enthralled with the process. I only have to wear it for two weeks since I'm going to heal so fast. We had to take my shirt off to put the cast on and couldn't fit it back on, so I went home in just my diaper. Nobody minded.

It was a really long day; I fell asleep before we got out of the doctor's parking lot.

I'm getting used to having my cast on (although I try and pull at it to get Mommy to take it off). The cast is really hard and Quinn has gotten more than one bonk on the head. He's been extra nice to me. Well, he was for the first few minutes.

See how fast I move even now? My balance is a little off, so I fall down a bit more. I can't carry anything while I'm getting up or sitting down or crawling up the stairs, but I tend to forget that so there's a lot of picking things up, looking confused, putting them down, looking confused and then handing things to Mommy to carry for me.

Most of the time, I don't even notice that I have a cast on. I'm definitely not in any pain, just a bit uncomfortable carrying this extra weight around.

Before you know it, I'll be back to my usual happy, smiling, climbing self. Wish me quick healing!

First Day of School

Today was my first day of school! I'm in the 4-year-old class this year, and I'm very proud to tell that to everyone I meet. My classroom is upstairs this year.

I was not feeling like posing for pictures this morning,

 but I finally relented.

I had a great day at school and I came home talking about my new teacher, my new class and my new friends. I can't wait to go back tomorrow (that's right, I go 5 days a week now!)

Virginia is for Quinn (Part 2)

So after I visited in Hamilton, I went to Springfield to Grandma and Grandpa Steve's house. Here's what I had to say about these pictures.

That's at the zoo. That was the tiger.

That was us touching the wolf. He's a good wolf. [Saw a puppet show about the Big Good Wolf]

There's a merry-go-round right there.

That's on a train.

That's me feeding the goose popcorn.

And that's us building.

Grandpa built a train track and I built a river.

You see the deer right there? It's a scared deer.

There's Snoopy. That was at King's Dominion.

And that is Charlie Brown.  Charlie Brown came with Lucy.

I was driving the cars.

That's a rocking pirate ship. I was right here. I liked it. I wanted to be the captain.

That's the puppet show.

That's the splash down.

That's a water slide. We went up the water slide. We went down the slide very fast. I wasn't scared. We said "Whoa!"

That's the bumpy cars. I drived that one by myself. At the fair I didn't.

That's Grandma and Grandpa. I liked the bumpy cars they took me on.

Virginia is for Quinn (Part 1)

At the end of July, I went to visit my grandparents ALL BY MYSELF. I know, I'm a big kid. It's cool. So here are the pictures from it and the exact words I dictated to Mommy.  First I went to Hamilton to see Grandpa George.

That's when I was shooting. Those are the surprises he gave me.

I was playing baseball.

That's when Uncle Brian was catching the ball.

That's when I hit it.

That's when we were blowing bubbles. We were making it bigger.

That's when we were at the park.

We were there with Emma. That's her in the green.

That's when I was on the zap thing. That little zap thing- it goes to the other side. [zip line]

That's when we went to Dinosaur Land.

That's the shark we can go in side. You see me right there?

And that's when we went to the other side. That's the stegosaurus I found.

And those are the t-rexes I found.

And one fell down.

That's triceratops.

That's when I got on that big tractor. That's when we were at the fair with Uncle Brian and Susan.

That's when I was driving it.

And that's where we got the popcorn.

That's Uncle Brian playing games with me.

And that's Susan in the car.

And that's Uncle Brian in there.

And that's when we went to go on the camel.

And that's me riding with the little girl.

The camel went slow.

And those are the cars I went on.

And those are the sad cars I went on. [??] Those are the bumper cars I wanted to drive.

He had to drive it because the man said I was too small. We hit other cars.

There's me on the carousel. I mean the Ferris wheel.

I wasn't scared.

We saw the whole world. We saw our house, too. We could see Owen's new house, too.

That's when I went on the circle car. That's when I drove it. I drove the McDonald's car.

When it got to the corner we went very fast.

That's where I got my shark. The lady got it for me up there.

And that's the fun house I went on. It was fun.

That was there still.

I had a good time at Grandpa George's house.
